Testing of a Face ID-based fare payment system has begun in the Tashkent Metro. Currently, passengers can pay for their ride using facial recognition at one station, "Buyuk Ipak Yuli," on the Chilonzor line.
By the end of the second quarter of next year, the new fare payment system is planned to cover all metro stations.
The expansion of this new payment technology will depend on further funding.
To pay for rides using Face ID, users need to install the "ATTO" app and top up their balance. After that, they must register their biometric data by taking a selfie with the phone's front camera. The registration process takes just a few minutes.
At the station, passengers simply need to approach the turnstile and look into the camera. The recognition process takes only a few seconds, after which the turnstile opens and the fare is automatically deducted from the transport card.
Facial recognition payment will help increase passenger flow by improving station throughput during peak hours.
