In Tajikistan, at the direction of the Head of State, work has begun on the creation of the National Artificial Intelligence Corporation. The corresponding directive to the Government was issued as part of the annual Address of the Leader of the Nation.
The initiative is a continuation of the launch of the darya.ai AI cluster, which opened on June 25 of this year. The cluster utilizes modern NVIDIA H200 GPU chips and represents the first step toward forming a comprehensive ecosystem for AI computing in the country.
The concept is based on harnessing Tajikistan's hydropower potential, estimated at approximately 60 GWh of annual generation. Historically, the domestic market has been the primary consumer of electricity, which has limited the investment attractiveness of the sector. Electricity exports also remain unprofitable due to high competition in the region.
The darya.ai project proposed an alternative model: using energy from private hydropower plants for AI computing with a full value-added cycle. With a generation cost of about two cents per kWh, profitability increases significantly through the rental of computing power on global artificial intelligence markets.
According to the project initiators, high global demand for AI computing makes it possible to attract investments in both data center construction and the development of new generating capacity. In the long term, Tajikistan could become a regional hub for "green" AI data centers.
It is emphasized that this does not involve using the country's existing power grid. The plan is to launch new hydro and renewable energy projects aimed exclusively at meeting the needs of AI infrastructure.
