At a presentation at the Silkroad Innovation Hub, Stanford researchers Azizjon Azimi, Gloria Li, and David Halpert presented a case study on the development of AI in Tajikistan through zypl.ai, the AI Council, and tajrupt. Azimi announced the introduction of an "AI Fundamentals" course in schools by 2027 and the training of 500 engineers in 2024–25. In Dushanbe, the creation of the Area AI hub with a "green" data center and laboratories of global corporations is planned within five years.
At the Silkroad Innovation Hub — a startup center located in the heart of Silicon Valley — a presentation was held on a case study written by the research team of Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
The speakers included Azizjon Azimi, founder and CEO of zypl.ai and Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Council under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan; Gloria Li, Professor at Stanford University; and renowned American investor David Halpert, founder of the venture fund Battery Road Digital Holdings.
The thematic study reveals the history of the development of the AI industry in Tajikistan through the lens of three organizations that laid the foundation for AI: the fintech startup zypl.ai, the AI Council, and the public organization tajrupt.
By investing early in AI and machine learning technologies, Tajikistan could have grown a long-term source of economic growth with the potential to attract foreign investment.
Azizjon Azimi shared future plans for implementing the National AI Strategy — from introducing the subject "Fundamentals of AI" in all schools in the country by 2027 to training 500 highly qualified AI engineers with an export orientation for their developments in 2024-25. The vision for the future AI hub in Dushanbe — Area AI — was also discussed.
Over the next five years, plans include creating infrastructure for an AI leap, including a "green" data center, R&D for new applications of AI algorithms, and attracting global technology corporations to launch local AI laboratories.
