On March 15, the final of the Deeptech Bayge competition with a prize fund of 35 million tenge took place at Nazarbayev University. The first place (12 million tenge) was taken by GAME OF DRONES, second place went to FLECTION.AI (10 million), and third place to GRANULO SYSTEM (8 million). The audience choice prize (5 million tenge) was awarded to HEMO LAB. Ten startups from the 100 selected projects performed in the final.
On March 15, the final pitch competition of Deeptech Bayge was held at Nazarbayev University with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ermek Kosherbayev. Deeptech Bayge is the first major local event that unites projects from all graduates of NU's startup support programs: incubation, acceleration, Jas Venture, Go Abroad, and others. The total prize fund of the competition amounted to 35 million tenge. The event was organized with the support of the Social Development Fund.
10 startups presented their innovative solutions in various fields at the final event, ranging from AI in medicine to advanced monitoring systems in agriculture. Each project underwent a three-minute pitch, after which the founders answered questions from the jury. The experts were interested in the uniqueness of the startup, its market potential, future plans, and the practical application of the technologies.
The first place, with a prize fund of 12 million tenge, was awarded to the startup GAME OF DRONES — an innovative platform for training combat drone pilots, offering more affordable and effective training methods using simulations.
The second place, worth 10 million tenge, went to the startup FLECTION.AI — a digital therapeutic system for post-stroke rehabilitation, using gamification and AI methods.
The third place, with a prize fund of 8 million tenge, was awarded to the GRANULO SYSTEM project. This is a system for analyzing ore fractions to improve production processes in the mining industry. It helps monitor the distribution of ore sizes on a conveyor belt, thereby improving control over ball mill operations and blasting works. The project has already attracted the interest of the Kazakh metallurgical company "Kazminzinc."
The Audience Choice Award, worth 5 million tenge, was received by the MedTech startup HEMO LAB. This is a SaaS platform for accurate and early disease diagnosis, reducing the time for diagnosis by 10 times with 95% accuracy.
Additionally, all startups gained access to mentoring programs and opportunities for collaboration with industrial partners, opening up prospects for scaling and entering new markets.
Applications for participation in the Deeptech Bayge competition began in late January this year. About 100 projects participated in the preliminary round, but only 10 teams made it to the final based on the decision of the jury, consisting of leading business angels and venture investors. NU plans to expand the competition by including participants from other universities in the country. In the long term, a startup support fund will be created, allowing Deeptech Bayge to be held on a regular basis.
