TechGirls is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, administered by Legacy International in partnership with Virginia Tech.
The program unites and supports a new generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, providing them with access and opportunities to develop their skills and achieve their dreams.
In 2024, the program plans to support 111 young women from 37 countries and more than 13 peers from the United States, offering a four-week experience in the U.S. along with a seven-month mentorship program.
At the core of the TechGirls program is a 25-day internship in the U.S. in partnership with Virginia Tech. Finalists will participate in interactive technology and computer training, and then travel to one of the following cities: Austin, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Cincinnati, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Detroit, Michigan; or Seattle, Washington, to explore networking and career opportunities.
The TechGirls program creates a multiplier effect, as participants will carry out projects aimed at solving specific problems in their communities upon returning home. They will receive mentorship for seven months.
