From November 8 to 10, a hackathon — a large-scale competition for beginner and experienced developers — took place in the mining capital of Kazakhstan. Over 48 hours, participants created their technological solutions to compete for a cash prize.
The event was organized by the local startup ecosystem "Terricon Valley," with partners including Freedom Holding Corp. and Freedom Şapağat. Developers were tasked with creating their projects for a candidate search and selection system for job vacancies.
A total of 80 teams comprising 230 participants took part in the hackathon. The competition was intense: only 40 teams advanced to the final, each presenting their solutions to the jury. First place was won by Team No. 47 — Arman Sergazin and Baltabekov Rahat, who received the grand prize of 500,000 tenge. Second place and a prize of 300,000 tenge were awarded to Team No. 8 — Bazarbayev Yerasyl, Zhorabek Alimzhan, Serikov Aizhas, and Tolbayev Alinur, while third place and a prize of 200,000 tenge went to Team No. 74 — Anasov Ruslan and Abdulov Malik. Separate awards were given in the "People's Choice Award" category: Teams No. 14 and No. 28 each received 100,000 tenge.
Organizers and partners noted the high level of preparation among participants. Freedom Telecom, a hackathon partner, announced an additional pitch session for the best projects: the 15 finalist teams will once again present their developments, which have a chance to be launched in pilot mode.
Holding such hackathons serves as an important stimulus for IT professionals, providing an opportunity to showcase their skills, receive feedback, and gain financial support. As this event demonstrates, such competitions are not just contests but also platforms for new ideas that can influence the future of technology.
