In Kazakhstan, a large-scale project for import substitution in the pharmaceutical industry is being implemented — an innovative full-cycle biopharmaceutical hub will be established in the new city of Alatau. Its construction will be carried out by an international company with state support, with investment volume reaching approximately $200 million.
The project is being implemented in accordance with the directives of the President of Kazakhstan regarding ensuring the country's drug and biosecurity, as well as achieving a 50% share of localized medicines. The joint venture created for the implementation of the project expects to conclude an investment agreement with the government and has already received approval from the investment headquarters.
A modern production complex will be built on the allocated plot in Alatau, which will ensure the creation of several hundred jobs. Products with local status will be supplied not only to the domestic market but also for export.
The investing company has also undertaken an obligation to gradually reduce the cost of medicines for consumers — by approximately 20% every three years, compensating for this through export supplies.
The project will become one of the key elements in the formation of the biopharmaceutical industry in Kazakhstan and will strengthen the country's position as a regional hub in the field of high-tech manufacturing. The construction partner is Khan Tengri Biopharma. The launch of the plant will help stabilize drug prices and establish the production of vital medicines of strategic importance for national security.
