The device is inserted into the jaw, equipped with sensors and a gyroscope, allowing control of technology using the tongue and head. The schoolboys received a patent and plan to find a sponsor to scale up the project.
Schoolchildren from Taraz have developed a prosthetic device that enables people with disabilities to control wheelchairs, mobile phones, computers, and even air conditioners using their own language.
Twelfth-grade students Kanat Tajikhan and Barys Kaldybay worked on the device for two years. The young inventors studied numerous projects aimed at supporting people with disabilities. Today, 700,000 people with disabilities live in Kazakhstan, of whom only 12% are enrolled in education and 708 are employed. The reason is the inaccessibility of digital technologies.
They discovered that paralyzed individuals do not lose sensitivity in their tongues and developed a device accordingly. The prosthetic is inserted into the jaw and is equipped with special sensors and a gyroscope. Using these components, the device allows control not only through tongue movements but also head movements. For example, to turn a wheelchair to the right, a person simply needs to tilt their head in the desired direction. The schoolchildren have obtained a patent for the device and plan to find a sponsor for its mass production in the future.
