Startup Tools for Humanity, co-founded by Sam Altman, has unveiled an updated version of the World app, now positioned as a comprehensive digital platform that combines communication and financial transactions.
The app now features World Chat, an encrypted chat with end-to-end encryption similar to the Signal messenger. Messages from users with verified identities are displayed in one color, while messages from unverified accounts appear in another. This makes it easy to distinguish real people from bots and is part of the project's strategy to enhance trust and encourage user verification.
Additionally, World has expanded the functionality of its built-in crypto wallet. Users can now send and receive cryptocurrency directly within the app, link virtual bank accounts, receive salaries via World App, and transfer funds from bank accounts with subsequent conversion into cryptocurrency. With this range of features, the app begins to resemble P2P payment services like Venmo, but with deep cryptocurrency integration.
To confirm the "humanity" of users and enhance platform security, the World ID technology is used. Verification is performed by scanning the iris using the Orb device, which creates a unique digital identifier. This allows users to securely access new app features and increases trust among users.
Developers emphasize that the project's goal is to create a universal digital space that combines social interaction and financial tools while minimizing the presence of bots and fake accounts. The updated functionality aims to grow the user base globally and transform World into a full-fledged super-app for everyday digital tasks.
