Snap is introducing its first-ever video lenses powered by generative artificial intelligence. The lenses are powered by Snap’s proprietary generative video model. Three new AI video lenses are available to users of the Snapchat Platinum premium subscription, which costs $15.99 per month.
While Snap is considered a leader in augmented reality, it has also invested in artificial intelligence in recent years, like almost all other tech companies. With these new AI video lenses, Snap is integrating AI to remain competitive and provide its users with features not yet available on competitor platforms, including Instagram and TikTok.
Although Snapchat is launching with three AI video lenses, the company plans to add new ones every week. The first lenses, “Raccoon” and “Fox,” bring fluffy friends to life who hug you. The third lens, “Spring Flowers,” creates a zoom-out effect, showing the person in your snap holding a bouquet of flowers.
You can access the new lenses through the lens carousel. Then, select a lens and take a photo using either the front or rear camera. The AI-generated video will be created and automatically saved to your Memories.
In the past, Snap used AI tools from OpenAI and Google for some of its features; now it is also developing its own models.
