A schoolboy from Shymkent, Rakhat Omirbek, has developed a unique device that helps people with visual impairments navigate their surroundings.
The device is an electronic bracelet worn on the leg. The bracelet is called Vision Assistant. It warns the user of dangers occurring at a distance of one meter.
The inspiration for creating such a useful device came from the theme of inaccessibility of electronics for the blind. He demonstrated his development at an annual school scientific event.
Rakhat Omirbek began developing the device in the first half of 2023. The current version of the bracelet is the fourth. He programmed the internal system himself and printed the casing on a 3D printer in the school laboratory. At the moment, the young man is working on the fifth version of the device.
The new prototype will be twice as small and more accurate. Also, plans include adding glasses that can determine exactly what kind of obstacle is ahead. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the glasses will vocalize the type of obstacle, providing the user with complete information.
The new prototype is planned to be completed by the end of the year, followed by testing. There is also consideration of releasing the device to the market. The price will be 5,000-10,000 tenge. The main goal is to make the device affordable.
