Roblox unveiled the AI model Cube for generating 3D objects from text commands at GDC in San Francisco. Access to the tool will be available this week, and an open-source version has also been released. The company announced three additional AI tools: text generation, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text. Expansion of the model's capabilities is planned for the future.
Roblox announced the launch of Cube, the first AI-powered model for generating 3D objects. The tool will enable developers to create game assets based on text prompts.
Cube will be showcased at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Access to the tool will be available starting this week. The first available feature is 3D mesh generation. Developers will be able to create an object, such as “an orange race car with black stripes,” and then customize it in Roblox Studio.
The company also released an open-source version of Cube, allowing users to customize the model, develop plugins, and train the AI on their own data.
Additionally, Roblox announced three new AI-based tools:
— text generation for creating NPC dialogues
— text-to-speech for character voiceovers
— speech-to-text for voice control.
In the future, the company plans to expand Cube’s capabilities by adding the generation of complex objects and scenes. For example, developers will be able to create a forest location and modify its appearance depending on the season.
Roblox has already begun integrating AI into its products, including automatic texture and avatar generation. However, the use of generative technologies in the gaming industry remains controversial. According to GDC, 30% of developers believe that AI negatively impacts the market, and a study by CVL Economics predicts that by 2026, artificial intelligence could replace 13.4% of jobs in the field.
