Midjourney has released V7 — the first new image generation model in a year

The Midjourney service has unveiled model V7 — its first update in nearly a year. The new version of Midjourney stands out because personalization is enabled by default. To activate this feature, users need to evaluate approximately 200 images — based on these preferences, the system creates an individual profile and adjusts the visual style accordingly.

Once configured, the model can be toggled on or off both on the Midjourney website and in the Discord chat, if you are a member of the official server. In the web app, switching models is done via a dropdown menu next to the "Version" label.

V7 operates in two modes — Turbo and Relax. A new tool, Draft Mode, has also been introduced: it generates images 10 times faster and at half the cost of the standard mode. Although the quality is lower, the image can be refined and re-rendered with a single click.
Some Midjourney features are still unavailable in V7 — for example, image scaling and texturing.

Midjourney was launched in 2022 by David Holz, co-founder of Leap Motion. Since then, the project has not attracted external funding.
