Microsoft and Nvidia plan to invest in AI startup Anthropic as part of a strategic partnership, with Anthropic committing to use Microsoft’s cloud services worth $30 billion. Nvidia will invest up to $10 billion, and Microsoft up to $5 billion.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted that the companies will increasingly become customers of each other: Microsoft will use Anthropic’s models, while Anthropic will use Microsoft’s infrastructure, with OpenAI remaining an important partner.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. The startup actively works with corporate clients and forecasts revenue growth to $26 billion next year. As part of the deal, Anthropic will use up to 1 gigawatt of computing power on Nvidia Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin hardware, while Microsoft will provide access to Claude models through Azure AI Foundry.
Analysts note that these investments reflect a trend of consolidation in the AI industry around key players and a reduced dependence on a single company developing advanced models.
