On January 25, a pilot project will launch to provide internet access on trains using modern satellite technologies. The new service will be introduced on train No. 3/4 "Astana-Almaty," as this route features high passenger traffic and is highly popular among travelers.
As part of the pilot project, internet connectivity will be provided using modern satellite technologies, allowing passengers to access WhatsApp, YouTube, and other video hosting platforms throughout the journey. However, access to torrents and sites with streaming downloads will be restricted. The installation and maintenance of the equipment will be handled by Jusan Mobile, the official partner of OneWeb in Kazakhstan.
In addition to providing internet access, the project includes testing innovative technologies to improve passenger service quality and enhance the efficiency of train crews. Among the innovations are:
— mobile terminals for conductors to quickly verify tickets
— POS terminals for cashless payments in the dining car
— body-worn video recorders for train conductors, aimed at improving safety and transparency of operations
— surveillance systems for additional monitoring of conditions inside the cars.
The launch of the pilot project will be an important step toward potentially expanding the service to other routes across Kazakhstan.
