The Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan has initiated the creation of a national digital database of UNESCO World Heritage sites. This decision was made as part of fulfilling the President's directives to ensure the preservation of cultural heritage and enhance its protection.
The creation of this database will improve the monitoring and management of the protection of monuments included in the World Heritage List, as well as increase the transparency and accessibility of information about them for a wide audience. Modern digital technologies will be used in the process to develop and implement effective tools for managing cultural heritage.
Currently, there are 10 sites from Kazakhstan on the UNESCO List. Among the priority tasks of the ministry is expanding this list. By 2026, it is expected that 11 more sites will be added, including the rock mosques of the Mangystau Peninsula and cultural monuments included in the transnational nomination "Silk Road: Fergana-Syr Darya Corridor," prepared in cooperation with neighboring countries.
The database will be integrated with international platforms, enabling interaction with UNESCO and other global institutions, as well as strengthening attention to issues of protection and preservation of cultural heritage.
Effective management of World Heritage sites will involve the development of corresponding management plans, as well as continued training of specialists and work on developing tourist infrastructure in the protection zones of the monuments.
