Kazakhstan and China Energy Engineering Group have signed an agreement on the construction of a 300 MW solar power plant in the Sauran district of the Turkistan region.
The signing ceremony of the Investment Agreement and the Power Purchase Agreement between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and China Energy Engineering Group took place in the presence of Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The new solar power plant will be located in the Sauran district of the Turkistan region. The investment volume in the project will be approximately $320 million. Implementation is planned for 2025-2026. The project aims to strengthen the energy security of the southern regions of Kazakhstan, develop "green" generation, and is one of the practical outcomes of negotiations that Minister of Energy Yelan Akkenzhenov held the day before with the leadership of leading Chinese energy corporations.
The construction of the new solar power plant will make a significant contribution to diversifying the country's energy balance and achieving strategic indicators for increasing the share of renewable energy sources. The implementation of the project will also contribute to the further development of technological competencies in the field of renewable energy in Kazakhstan and strengthen the country's status as a regional leader in the transition to a "green" economy.
