JetBrains, the developer of popular tools such as IntelliJ IDEA and the Kotlin language, has announced the launch of Junie — an AI assistant designed to automate routine development tasks and improve existing projects.
Junie handles 53.6% of tasks on the SWE-Bench Verified benchmark, which currently trails behind the leaders but demonstrates promising results. The main advantage of Junie is its integration with JetBrains IDEs, enabling faster development and higher code quality. The assistant generates code, performs inspections, writes tests, and verifies their execution, while leaving full control in the hands of the developer.
At present, Junie is available only by pre-registration for IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate and PyCharm Professional users on Linux and Mac. Support for WebStorm is expected soon.
