Huawei and China Unicom have launched the first 10-gigabit 50G PON-based network in the Xinnan New Area. Download speeds reached 9834 Mbit/s, upload speeds reached 1008 Mbit/s, and latency was reduced to 3 ms. This project has been selected as one of the pilot initiatives of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for the deployment of 10 Gbit/s networks.
Huawei and China Unicom have jointly launched the first 10-gigabit broadband network in the Xinan New Area. The project is based on the advanced 50G PON solution, which increased the bandwidth for a single user from the usual gigabit level to 10 gigabits per second. Latency was reduced to 3 milliseconds.
The measured download speed for one of the users was 9834 Mbit/s, and the upload speed was 1008 Mbit/s. Downloading a 4K movie now takes only a few seconds, while simultaneous operation of multiple smart devices, cloud gaming, and 8K video remains stable.
This achievement opens up opportunities for the development of services requiring high bandwidth—from 8K video to VR/AR and cloud services.
Previously, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology included 168 pilot projects for the implementation of 10-gigabit networks in its recommended list. In Hebei Province, 15 projects were approved, 7 of which will be implemented with the participation of Hebei Unicom. Xinan became one of the first districts where such a program started.
