Associate Professor of Nazarbayev University becomes a laureate of the international Yandex ML Prize

Pavel Braslavsky, Associate Professor at Nazarbayev University and Senior Research Fellow at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, became a laureate in the "Scientific Supervisors" category.

This year, the Yandex ML Prize is being awarded for the fifth time. More than 200 applications were received across six categories. Researchers from 11 countries were eligible to apply, from which the prize council selected 11 laureates who presented the most promising and significant works in the fields of speech recognition and synthesis, computer vision, information retrieval, natural language processing, and generative models.

The laureates' research expands the possibilities for practical application of ML technologies. For example, they will enable the generation of highly detailed computer graphics in the future, make search and recommendation systems more accurate, and improve the quality and coherence of responses from smart assistants that can effectively handle both text and images. Additionally, such solutions may find application in medicine for studying the development of living cells or for early diagnosis of rare diseases.

Starting from 2023, the prize is awarded in the "First Publication" and "ML Educators" categories. The winners represent the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), MISIS, Saint Petersburg State University (SPbGU), Higher School of Economics (HSE), Skoltech, and Nazarbayev University.

All laureates will receive prizes ranging from 500,000 to 1,000,000 rubles, depending on the category. In addition to the monetary award, Yandex will provide laureates with access to "Yandex 360" services and grant them the use of the Yandex Cloud platform, which allows for large-scale computations and processing of experimental data.
