Beeline and Starlink will launch satellite mobile communication in Kazakhstan
Author - Mansur Ismagulov
Beeline Kazakhstan and Starlink Direct to Cell have signed an agreement to launch satellite mobile communications across the entire country, including remote areas without terrestrial infrastructure. The project is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The first service will be messaging, planned for launch in 2026. In the future, users will be able to access mobile internet via satellite. The Direct-to-Cell technology allows standard LTE smartphones to connect directly to satellites without additional equipment.
The project aims to provide connectivity in hard-to-reach areas of the country and improve digital accessibility for residents. As noted by the Minister of Digital Development, the new technology will enable sending messages even in areas where there was previously no mobile coverage, which could be critically important for citizen safety.
Beeline is already expanding its terrestrial coverage in small settlements and installing autonomous stations with solar panels. The agreement with Starlink is part of a global framework agreement between the VEON Group and the company, opening up opportunities for implementing satellite communications in other countries where the operator is present.
