ASTEL will officially present Starlink in Kazakhstan
Author - Mansur Ismagulov
ASTEL is the first Kazakhstani company to receive the status of an official Starlink reseller. When signing the agreement with the American company, ASTEL’s more than 30 years of experience in the field of satellite communications was noted.
What is ASTEL
ASTEL now operates as a universal satellite operator, combining the capabilities of geostationary and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems. This allows the company to offer customers a full range of technologies for internet access and to create integrated products and services based on them.
ASTEL, part of FREEDOM TELECOM HOLDING, will begin providing Starlink broadband satellite internet services from SpaceX in Kazakhstan this autumn. Thanks to cooperation with the global leader in low Earth orbit satellite technologies, ASTEL will ensure internet access in the most remote and hard-to-reach areas of the country.
President of JSC ASTEL Miras Kasymov noted that the demand for high-quality and fast internet is growing in Kazakhstan, especially in remote regions. According to him, this is precisely why the company is launching services based on low Earth orbit satellite systems. He emphasized that the status of an official Starlink representative opens up new technological horizons and provides businesses and the government with access to modern satellite solutions. Kasymov also added that the implementation of this project became possible thanks to state support, particularly from the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, which creates conditions for the introduction of advanced technologies and ensures equal access to digital services across the country.
Advantages of Starlink technology
Unlike traditional geostationary satellites located at an altitude of more than 35,000 kilometers, Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellites are positioned only ~550 kilometers from Earth. This significantly reduces signal transmission latency, provides higher data transfer speeds, and ensures a stable connection even under high load.
To operate the system, SpaceX has already launched several thousand satellites, providing coverage in 140 countries across all continents. Communication with the satellites is carried out through compact Starlink terminals connected to a Wi-Fi router. Thanks to the portability of the antennas, the service can be used both at home and on the go — on trains, ships, or cars.
Significance for Kazakhstan
The connection of Starlink will be an important step in the development of telecommunications in Kazakhstan. This technology will help eliminate the digital divide between cities and rural areas, providing high-speed internet where it was previously limited or unavailable.
Given ASTEL’s extensive network of representative offices, the service can be purchased and activated in any region of the country.
