Apple introduced the next generation of its proprietary processors—the M5 chip, built on a third-generation 3-nanometer process. It serves as the foundation for all of the company’s new devices: the MacBook Pro 14, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro 2.
The new M5 features a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Each GPU core is now equipped with a built-in Neural Accelerator, enabling more than four times the AI computation power compared to the M4 and six times that of the M1.
Unified memory bandwidth has increased to 153 GB/s, improving performance with large language models and Apple Intelligence features running directly on the device.
The chip delivers “intelligent acceleration” through tight integration with the Core ML and Metal 4 frameworks, allowing applications to automatically benefit from performance gains.
The MacBook Pro 14 is 20% faster in CPU performance and up to 60% faster in graphics performance.
The iPad Pro shows a 3.5x increase in AI module performance and supports Wi-Fi 7.
The Vision Pro 2 features more detailed micro-OLED displays with a 120 Hz refresh rate and extended battery life up to three hours.
