Apple has partnered with startup Anthropic to integrate the Claude Sonnet model into the Xcode development environment. The platform for vibe-coding is already being tested internally at the company and allows writing, editing, and testing code using AI. This year, Apple also plans to add Google's Gemini model. The decision reflects the company's readiness for external collaboration following delays in the development of its own generative AI technologies.
Apple has partnered with startup Anthropic to develop a new vibe-coding platform that will use artificial intelligence to write, edit, and test code on behalf of programmers.
The new version of the Xcode development environment will integrate Anthropic's Claude Sonnet model. Apple is currently using this platform only internally and has not yet decided on a public launch.
The partnership reflects Apple's willingness to collaborate following difficulties in developing its own technologies. This year, the company also plans to add Google's Gemini model to its ecosystem as an alternative to ChatGPT.
The project will help accelerate internal processes and modernize product development. A similar approach is already being used by companies such as Windsurf and Anysphere, creators of Cursor, whose AI assistants are popular among developers.
The integration of Anthropic's Claude Sonnet model acknowledges that Apple needs external support. However, both tools can work together. Claude is known for its high efficiency specifically in programming. The new platform features a chat interface where programmers can request code snippets, make changes, test user interfaces, and fix bugs.
After missing the wave of interest in generative AI more than two years ago, the company has accelerated its development in this area. The new tool has already begun testing by engineers within the company. If successfully implemented, it may be presented to external developers, who use Xcode and the Swift language to create apps for Apple devices.
The partnership with Apple could be a significant achievement for Anthropic. Previously, the startup began collaborating with Amazon, participating in the development of the new Alexa+ assistant. However, last year when discussing an AI partnership for Siri, Apple considered only Google and OpenAI before settling on ChatGPT.
