Amazon has unveiled AI-powered smart glasses for its delivery drivers. These glasses are designed to enable seamless, hands-free operation, allowing drivers to scan packages, follow step-by-step instructions, and record delivery confirmations without being distracted by smartphones.
The glasses are equipped with cameras and leverage computer vision and AI to display delivery information, including warnings about potential hazards. When a vehicle is parked, the glasses automatically activate, helping the driver locate packages and navigate to the delivery address, including multi-unit residential buildings and commercial properties.
The devices also feature a controller integrated into the courier's vest, with a replaceable battery and an emergency contact button. The glasses support prescription and photochromic lenses that automatically adjust to lighting conditions.
Amazon is currently testing the glasses with couriers in North America and plans further refinement of the technology before broader deployment. In the future, the glasses will be able to provide drivers with real-time information about defects, notify them of delivery address errors, and detect pets on the premises.
