Albania appoints artificial intelligence as minister

In Albania, an artificial intelligence system has been appointed to a ministerial position for the first time — the AI bot Diella has been named Minister of Public Procurement. Its main task is to eliminate corruption and abuses in tenders, which have long been considered one of the most problematic areas in the country. Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized that this is the first virtual member of the government, tasked with ensuring transparency in all competitions.

Previously, Diella had already worked as a digital assistant on the e-Albania platform, helping citizens obtain documents online. Now, the bot will oversee the conclusion of state contracts. However, it is not yet clear how oversight of its activities will be organized. Public reaction is mixed: some hope for real change, while others doubt that even AI can defeat corruption.
