The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan plans to train 1 million Kazakhstani citizens in AI skills over five years. As part of the initiative, TUMO centers will be opened for school students, Tomorrow School for university students, AI Qyzmet and QazCoders programs for government officials and citizens, and the Decentrathon hackathon will be held.
Training 1 million Kazakhstani citizens in artificial intelligence skills is a strategic initiative of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the next five years, the plan is to reach 500,000 schoolchildren, 300,000 students, 90,000 government officials, 80,000 business representatives, and thousands of citizens from other sectors. The goal is to foster a generation ready to create and use technologies, rather than merely consume them.
This autumn, a TUMO center will open at the International AI Center alem.ai for teenagers aged 12–18. This innovative educational space will allow children to learn the basics of animation, programming, 3D graphics, generative AI, and other fields for free. Last year, the first peer-to-peer Tomorrow School of AI opened for youth and students, focusing on practice, teamwork, and critical thinking development. The program is free and lasts two years. Anyone who passes the selection process can enroll. During the training, students master modern programming languages in demand in AI and IT development, such as Golang, JavaScript, Python, and Rust.
Additionally, the AI Qyzmet program is designed for government officials and managers, teaching them not just to understand AI, but to implement it ethically, effectively, and for the benefit of society. This contributes to creating a technologically advanced and flexible public administration system.
Furthermore, the QazCoders program has been launched—an educational initiative developed in partnership with the UAE. A similar project was successfully implemented in Uzbekistan and Jordan between 2019 and 2023. The program is available without age restrictions, with support from experts and an AI assistant.
Another significant initiative in the field of artificial intelligence is Decentrathon—the largest multi-location hackathon in Kazakhstan. This project brings together young specialists from across the country and engages them in the AI transformation process through real, practical work on future solutions. In 2024, more than 2,500 participants from all regions of the country took part in Decentrathon.
