Y Combinator has announced priority areas for startups in the fall of 2026
Y Combinator's venture fund has published an updated list of prompts for startups for the Fall 2026 cohort. The main theme of the new document is the deep integration of artificial intelligence into the physical world and traditional sectors of the economy.
Document covers a wide range of technological challenges and serves as a strategic guide for IT entrepreneurs. Among the key areas that YC recommends developers focus on are the following:
Integration of AI into the real sector and defense technologies
YC notes an acute need for new operating systems for the physical world capable of managing the collaboration of humans, robotic systems, and AI agents in areas such as construction and logistics. A separate point highlights a request from the U.S. Army Department for the development of low-cost interception systems, open-architecture software, and advanced drones adapted for modern combat and extreme climatic conditions.
New software paradigms
The foundation is seeking solutions in the field of "small software" — customized tools for small teams relying on simplified cloud infrastructure. Attention is also focused on the concept of "multiplayer AI," within which autonomous AI agents become full-fledged participants in collaborative teamwork in real-time, rather than just tools for single requests.
Infrastructure and hardware innovations
In response to the global shortage of energy capacity and land resources for building data centers, YC proposes the concept of "Computing at Sea." The idea involves creating floating modular computing complexes that use the ocean as a natural heat sink. Additionally, the foundation sees prospects in developing new methods for collecting dense data about the physical world for predictive modeling.
Social and consumer technologies
Against the backdrop of an aging population, YC calls for the creation of specialized AI products for the elderly: from smart voice interfaces to robotics for home assistance. In the field of education, the focus is on developing adaptive AI tutors. At the same time, creating new identity verification systems to combat the growing threat of deepfakes and fraud has been recognized as a fundamental task.
Financial infrastructure and the crypto industry
Despite market fluctuations, the accelerator confirms long-term interest in cryptocurrency projects, especially in the field of stablecoins, cross-border transfers, and B2B solutions. In the area of corporate finance, YC highlights the need for AI-native infrastructure for compliance, capable of automating the monitoring of regulatory requirements and reducing the costs of global business.
The publication of the RFS list traditionally indicates the sectors that will receive the greatest financial and expert support from the world's largest startup incubator in the coming years. The full list of requests is available on the official Y Combinator website.
