Founded in 1993, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) is an international institution offering education based on the classical model. The university’s mission is to prepare leaders who will contribute to democratic change in Central Asia and to the economic development of Kyrgyzstan. AUCA was the first private university in Central Asia to provide instruction in English and to offer accredited dual-degree programs with U.S. institutions. It is the only institution in the region that enables students from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to maintain active interaction across national borders.
With a few exceptions, all courses are taught in English, making high-quality education in the liberal arts and sciences accessible to students throughout Central Asia and beyond. Virtual international exchanges and connections with the global network of Bard College allow students to participate in various academic and extracurricular activities with their peers from America, Europe, and Eurasia.

The university strives for academic excellence and focuses on preparing future leaders capable of addressing significant social and economic challenges in Central Asia. AUCA has created a creative, flexible, and inclusive educational environment where cultural diversity is highly valued, and aspects such as race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, class, physical ability, national origin, and age enrich intellectual interaction.
AUCA supports academic freedom in the spirit of the classical tradition of liberal arts and sciences. The educational community pursues knowledge and research freely, without undue interference or restrictions.
According to the QS Asian University Rankings 2024, AUCA ranks 249th. This is a significant achievement, driven by the institute’s favorable and respected academic reputation.

Student Opportunities
The university collaborates with a diverse network of academic partners to enhance its educational offerings and global engagement. By participating in thematic initiatives of OSUN, a global university network, AUCA focuses on several key areas, including arts and humanities, social sciences, data and information, and global environmental issues. These collaborations allow AUCA to expand academic programs, research opportunities, and international exchanges, providing students with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education.
Of the 1,457 students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, and NGA programs at AUCA, 601 students, or 41%, are international students. Of these 601 international students, 308, including 218 women, are from Afghanistan, making it the second-largest student demographic after Kyrgyzstan. AUCA opens doors for students from Afghanistan, offering international educational experience and the opportunity to study alongside students from all Central Asian states, the United States, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, India, Turkey, China, South Korea, Japan, Mongolia, and many other countries around the world.
The American University of Central Asia has academic cooperation agreements with more than 70 institutions in 28 countries and regions to facilitate international exchanges in research and education. More than 70% of students actively participate in mutual academic exchanges. Currently, students are enrolled in 15 bachelor’s and 10 master’s programs from more than 25 countries.

Student Life
The University Club Fair is an exciting and vibrant event held at the beginning of each academic year. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to explore a wide range of extracurricular activities and organizations on campus.
Students can organize clubs related to their academic interests, helping them build networks and gain additional knowledge beyond classroom learning. For those interested in public service or social issues, there are associations dedicated to volunteering and activism. Athletes can find clubs for various sports, such as football, volleyball, and basketball, while cultural communities offer opportunities to celebrate and share diverse traditions.
One of the best aspects of the club fair is the opportunity for freshmen to find their niche and make new friends. They have the chance to interact with club members, sign up for newsletters, and, in some cases, even participate in small demonstrations or events directly at the fair.
Beyond the immediate benefits of joining clubs, the club fair helps foster a sense of belonging and community on campus. It encourages students to explore their interests, develop leadership skills, and engage with peers in meaningful ways. It is a vibrant celebration of the diverse talents and passions that make up the university’s student community.
