On September 21, it became known about Kazakhstan's plans to obtain its own telephone code. However, Deputy Minister Askhat Orazbek stated that the transition to a new code is not mandatory, as the field for negotiations remains open. The reservation of the new code is due to potential problems in the agreement with Russia regarding the retention of the +7 zone, from which Uzbekistan (+998) and Ukraine (+380) have already exited.
On September 21, it became known that Kazakhstan would have its own telephone code. However, in an interview, Askhat Orazbek, Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, stated that "there is still room for negotiation, and it is not certain that we will have to switch to a new code."
The reservation of a new code for Kazakhstan was dictated by urgent necessity, as there are issues in the agreement between Russia and Kazakhstan regarding Kazakhstan's ability to remain in the +7 code zone that could potentially become problematic at some point.
"All the republics left the seventh numbering zone except for Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan switched to a three-digit code +998, Ukraine to +380. Only Kazakhs, as the smartest, stayed with the +7 code. I also like this number. Moreover, my phone number consists of five sevens. Therefore, it is somewhat uncomfortable for me to switch to a new code as well," noted Askhat Orazbek.
