In Uzbekistan, priority tasks for the development of the artificial intelligence ecosystem have been identified.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on achieved results and future priority tasks for the development of the artificial intelligence ecosystem in our country.
As a result of work carried out in recent years in this field, Uzbekistan has risen by 25 positions and taken 62nd place in the international ranking of readiness for artificial intelligence implementation. The goal is to enter the top 50 leading countries in the world by this index by 2030.
Additionally, it is planned to increase the volume of AI-based software products and services to $1.5 billion, expand infrastructure, and implement more than 200 new projects.
Emphasizing that artificial intelligence technologies are developing at a rapid pace, the head of state noted the need to continuously analyze global and regional trends, quickly adopt advanced developments, and propose new initiatives.
During the presentation, issues related to the development of modern computing infrastructure were primarily discussed.
Last month, a supercomputer based on technologies from the American company NVIDIA was commissioned at the "Digital Government" data center. By power level, it ranked 321st in the world. Within just one month, the cluster load reached 90%, indicating high demand for computing power in our country.
To date, modern computing infrastructure worth $24 million has been commissioned. An additional $70 million has been proposed to expand the existing computing cluster. Information was provided on funding sources, equipment delivery timelines, and joint projects with foreign investors to create data centers in Karakalpakstan.
It was noted that the effectiveness of AI solutions directly depends on the quality of the database. In this regard, tasks were set to inventory data available in ministries and departments, ensure their completeness, accuracy, and mutual integration, as well as to form high-quality datasets by sector.
The need to increase the number of AI projects in the economy and social sphere to more than 100 already this year was emphasized. Solutions being developed for healthcare, energy, transport, customs administration, legal services, public safety, ecology, and geology were presented.
The importance of establishing systematic interaction with IT Park residents, startups, and more than 20 artificial intelligence laboratories was highlighted. It is expected that this year the number of residents working in this field will reach 300, the volume of services provided will be two trillion sums, and exports will reach $160 million.
Special attention was given to personnel training. Today, more than 1.5 million users have received special certificates in artificial intelligence. Additionally, 900 managers, over 3,000 civil servants, 1,000 bank employees, and 200 advisors have undergone training on special courses.
The task for the next two years is to fully implement the "Five Million AI Leaders" project, as well as to develop modern educational materials for schoolchildren, students, teachers, and the general public.
Industry hackathons and competitions were held in the cities of Nukus, Samarkand, Termez, Bukhara, Fergana, Andijan, Guliston, and Jizzakh. The competition for the "Best AI Startup" was launched. It was ordered to organize such hackathons in all regions.
The activities of advisors to governors of regions, districts, and cities on artificial intelligence issues were also discussed. Out of 500 candidates, 222 advisors were selected. The need to widely attract young specialists educated abroad and proficient in modern technologies to these positions was emphasized, along with evaluating their performance based on specific indicators of effectiveness and efficiency.
The task was set to launch a separate digital platform for monitoring and supporting the activities of advisors, as well as the projects and initiatives they implement.
During the presentation, prospects for the development of international cooperation in the field of AI were also discussed. As is known, Uzbekistan has become a member of WAICO – the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.
It was emphasized that through participation in this organization, new initiatives should be promoted for implementing advanced technologies, large language models, and digital transformation solutions in our country, implementing joint projects with foreign technology companies and scientific institutions, and training highly qualified personnel.
The President of our country gave specific instructions to responsible officials on the systematic increase of computing power, expansion of practical projects in industries, creation of a high-quality database, support for talented youth and startups, and the development of international cooperation.
