AI is being implemented in 17 areas of healthcare in Kazakhstan

Medical organizations in Kazakhstan are currently piloting AI technologies across 17 different areas. Neural network algorithms are being used to analyze fluorography, mammography, radiography, CT, and MRI. AI is utilized for detecting strokes, lung and breast cancer, as well as pneumonia. These solutions help improve diagnostics and the efficiency of radiological examinations.

The development of AI technologies in healthcare is being carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Concept for the Development of AI for 2024-2029. The project includes specific measures and indicators for implementing AI-based solutions in clinical practice. Additionally, a national standard regulating the use of AI in medicine has been introduced, six international standards have been acquired, and the implementation of another 17 is planned for 2025-2026.

Currently, there are no hindering factors in the country for the use of AI in medicine — pilot testing of solutions is being conducted with subsequent scaling. All solutions undergo health technology assessment to obtain the status of a medical device. The assessment includes an analysis of clinical effectiveness, safety, and economic feasibility.

Integration of AI has also begun in the educational sector: the discipline "Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence" has been included in the curriculum of medical universities, and from 2025-2026 it will also appear in the courses "General Medicine" and "Pediatrics." Teaching is based on practical AI tools and modern approaches.

Furthermore, work is underway to create a unified medical data repository. It will ensure centralized collection and processing of information, improve the quality of AI solutions, and simplify management processes in the healthcare sector. The work on implementing artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan's medicine continues and develops in accordance with legislative requirements and the long-term strategy for digitalization.
