A regional center for UN digital solutions will open in Kazakhstan
An Asia-Pacific Center for Digital Solutions for Sustainable Development will be established in Almaty under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The decision to create the center was made during the 82nd session of the commission, held in Bangkok. The initiative was supported by all 52 member states of ESCAP, underscoring the high level of trust in Kazakhstan and its role in advancing the region's digital agenda.
The new center will become the sixth institutional unit of ESCAP. To date, similar centers are already operating in countries such as Japan, China, the Republic of Korea, India, and Iran. Hosting the center in Kazakhstan expands the geographical scope of the commission's digital initiatives and strengthens the organization's presence in Central Asia.
The establishment of the center aligns with the course set by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who declared the current period a time of active development in digitalization and artificial intelligence. In this context, the launch of the center is viewed as a logical continuation of state policy aimed at implementing digital technologies and fostering an innovative ecosystem.
The Asia-Pacific Center for Digital Solutions is expected to become a key platform for developing, testing, and deploying advanced digital solutions aimed at achieving sustainable development goals. Its activities will cover a wide range of areas, including the application of artificial intelligence, the development of digital infrastructure, support for innovation, and the exchange of best practices among countries in the region.
The center will also promote international cooperation by bringing together governments, the private sector, and the technology community to collaborate on digital initiatives. Special attention will be paid to supporting Asia-Pacific countries in adapting to digital transformation and reducing the technological gap.
The implementation of the project will enable Kazakhstan to strengthen its position as a regional hub for digitalization, innovation, and artificial intelligence. The center is expected to become an important attraction point for international experts, investments, and technology projects, while also creating new opportunities for the development of human capital and the country's digital economy.
