In Kazakhstan, 200,000 teachers will gain access to ChatGPT Edu
In Kazakhstan, 200,000 teachers will be connected to the ChatGPT Edu project to create AI assistants. The Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan is preparing the pilot project for launch, and by 2026, teachers will be able to use artificial intelligence tools to reduce routine workload and improve work efficiency.
The project is being implemented under a memorandum and aims to introduce modern technologies into the education system. The country is already conducting large-scale work to integrate artificial intelligence into educational processes. Based on the QazTech platform, the National Educational Database is being modernized, which will become a unified repository for electronic diaries and allow for the formation of digital student profiles. It is also planned to create a National Educational Platform where all services and state services in the field of education will be combined. This approach will allow a transition from simply maintaining electronic diaries to managing educational trajectories and talents based on data and artificial intelligence.
The main goal of the pilot project is to introduce the ChatGPT system into the educational process to improve the quality of education, increase the efficiency of teachers, and develop research potential. In addition, the project should contribute to the automation of academic processes using artificial intelligence technologies.
Under the memorandum, 100,000 ChatGPT Edu licenses have been allocated to the Ministry of Education. They are distributed among various levels of education:
— 5,000 — for preschool organizations
— 85,000 — for schools
— 10,000 — for colleges.
In the second half of the year, licenses will be redistributed, and an additional 100,000 teachers will be provided with access. Thus, throughout 2026, the project will cover approximately 200,000 teachers across the country.
As part of the project, each teacher will receive their own "smart assistant." ChatGPT Edu will allow teachers to prepare lesson plans, create assignments and tests, adapt educational materials for students with different levels of preparation, and develop materials in Kazakh, Russian, and English within minutes.
During lessons, the tool will help teachers explain complex topics in simple language, use real-life examples, and turn classes into discussions, collaborative projects, or research work. The system will also assist in developing evaluation criteria, preliminary analysis of student work, and preparing individual feedback. However, as emphasized, the final assessment will always be made by the teacher themselves.
Furthermore, the platform will become a tool for the professional development of teachers. Educators will be able to study modern teaching methods, update educational courses, develop methodological materials, and master new digital and AI practices.
