An artificial intelligence center, alem.ai, has launched in Astana.
An international artificial intelligence center, alem.ai, has opened in Astana. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the ceremony.
During the visit, the head of state was presented with several key projects aimed at developing artificial intelligence in the country. These include the AI-Driven Government project office, solutions for implementing AI in urban infrastructure through Astana Smart City, and the concept of an AI Research University.
The alem.ai center will become a key element of Kazakhstan's artificial intelligence ecosystem. Its work is focused on developing human capital, supporting scientific research, and launching technological startups. Within the center, a unified system has been established — from identifying and training talent to creating and scaling IT products.
It is planned that alem.ai will reach up to 10,000 people annually, including about 5,000 school students who will gain in-depth knowledge in technology and AI. The center's strategy also includes launching up to 100 startups each year.
As part of the event, the Astana Smart City project was officially launched in collaboration with Presight. The project includes a situational center, an intelligent video surveillance system, and a specialized data center. It will enable real-time management of urban infrastructure, improving safety and the efficiency of city services.
Special attention has been given to the development of AI education. By presidential decree, the Tomorrow School was established in 2024 at Astana Hub. As part of a telebridge event, the network of these schools was launched simultaneously in 14 regions of the country.
Education at Tomorrow School is free and available to all citizens over the age of 18, including those without prior IT knowledge. The program is implemented on the basis of the international 01 Edu platform and follows a peer-to-peer learning model, emphasizing practice and independent work.
To date, more than 21,000 applications have been submitted for enrollment, with 418 students already beginning their studies in Astana.
Additionally, the TUMO Astana center for school students aged 12 to 18 has opened in the capital. The center's educational program covers 11 areas, including generative artificial intelligence, programming, animation, game development, and digital music. Currently, about 1,300 students are enrolled.
The logical continuation of the educational ecosystem will be the launch of the AI Research University, which will begin operations on September 1, 2026. The university will provide access to the national artificial intelligence infrastructure, including alem.cloud, AlemLLM, and Astana Hub resources.
As part of the opening, various AI-related events and competitions took place. In particular, the alem.ai battle was held, where participants presented their developments and solutions.
