A powerful supercomputer AI cluster costing $4 billion will be built in Armenia.
The American company Firebird has announced the launch of the second phase of a major project to create an AI supercomputing cluster in Armenia. The total investment volume has been increased to $4 billion, and by 2026, the project's computing power will reach 50,000 graphics processing units (GPUs).
As part of the new phase, Firebird has received export licenses and permits from the U.S. government to supply an additional 41,000 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs to Armenia. This will enable the creation of one of the five largest AI clusters in the world by GPU capacity in the country.
The project was announced on February 10 during the official visit of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance to Yerevan. The announcement was made at a press briefing attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, NVIDIA representative Reva Lebaredian, and Firebird co-founders Razmig Ovagimyan and Alexander Esayan.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the memorandum of cooperation between Armenia and the United States in the field of semiconductors and artificial intelligence, signed on August 8, laid the foundation for the implementation of the Firebird project and the construction of a data center and an "AI factory" in the country.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized that the approval of advanced NVIDIA chip shipments creates new markets and jobs in both the United States and Armenia, reflecting a high level of trust between the countries in the high-tech sector.
The second phase of the project continues the first phase, announced earlier and valued at $500 million, during which the foundation for Armenia's first high-performance AI cluster was established.
According to Firebird co-founder and CEO Razmig Ovagimyan, the project will transform Armenia into an international center for supercomputing and open up new opportunities for research in biomedicine, robotics, space technology, and artificial intelligence.
The Firebird project aims to establish a sustainable technological ecosystem in Armenia based on modern infrastructure, international cooperation, and long-term economic benefits.
