Details of the new device from OpenAI have been revealed.
The gadget will feature a unique design with moving parts and built-in lighting that activates upon user interaction, creating the feeling of a "living" conversation.
The new product is a smart speaker without a display, made from premium metal. Its shape and size will resemble a hockey puck in the form of a donut — this design was chosen so that the gadget can be conveniently carried around the house with one hand.
Inside the speaker, cameras, microphones, a battery, and sensors for analyzing the surrounding environment will be installed. The device will operate on the basis of advanced ChatGPT models, gradually adapting to the owner's habits. The exterior design is being developed by LoveFrom, a studio founded by former Apple chief designer Jony Ive. The product is scheduled to hit the market in the second half of 2027.
OpenAI positions the speaker as an AI companion for solving everyday tasks and plans in the future to create an entire line of similar devices capable of replacing modern smartphones. However, these plans may be hindered by a legal dispute — Apple has accused OpenAI of stealing secret metal processing technologies and demanded a ban on their use.
The cost of the device will be over $300.
