The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan has allocated more than 10 billion tenge for the creation of a new space communication system, KazSat-3R.
As part of the implementation of the Head of State’s directive on the development of national digital infrastructure and ensuring citizens with modern telecommunications services, ten billion four hundred million tenge has been allocated from the Government’s reserve for the implementation of the project to create the KazSat-3R space communication system. The project is aimed at developing the national satellite communication and telecommunications industry.
The corresponding decree was signed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenev.
The allocated funds will be directed toward the creation of a new communication satellite, KazSat-3R, which is intended to replace the currently operating KazSat-3 spacecraft. The planned operational lifespan of KazSat-3 ends in 2029, and the replacement satellite will ensure the continuity of the national satellite communication system.
The implementation of the project will ensure stable operation of satellite communication and television/radio broadcasting networks, as well as expand Internet access in sparsely populated and remote settlements. Additionally, the level of information security will be enhanced, and Kazakhstan’s technological sovereignty will be strengthened.
Currently, the country’s largest telecommunications operators and government agencies utilize the resources of the KazSat space communication system. Services such as television and radio broadcasting, data transmission, mobile communication, and Internet access are provided based on this system. Nineteen telecommunications operators and more than two million television broadcasting subscribers are connected to the system.
Systematic work is underway in Kazakhstan to improve the quality of telecommunications services. Among the results achieved over the past two years is increasing the share of the population with access to high-speed Internet to 99%. High-speed Internet access is now available in more than 4,500 rural settlements.
Satellite technologies are used to provide connectivity to remote and hard-to-reach areas, enabling Internet access in settlements where the construction of ground infrastructure is difficult. Infrastructure development is supported by the implementation of key projects, including the expansion of fiber-optic communication lines in rural areas, the “Last Mile” project, the development of the 5G network, ensuring mobile connectivity along highways, and the introduction of modern satellite solutions.
At the same time, access to modern digital services is expanding: today, more than 90% of government services are provided online. Proprietary supercomputing resources and the unified digital platform QazTech have been launched, laying the foundation for the further development of artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
