Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
The Pokémon Company has announced a new pair of main series games — Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. The release is scheduled for 2027, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. This will be the tenth numbered entry in the Pokémon franchise.
The announcement was made during a special stream dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the release of the first games in the series. The new projects will be set in an open-world format and take place on a vast archipelago featuring numerous islands and ocean locations.
The starter Pokémon for the new generation were also revealed:
- Browt — a Grass-type Pokémon, a "bean chick"
- Pombon — a Fire-type Pokémon, inspired by the Pomeranian Spitz
- Gecqua — a Water-type gecko Pokémon with large pink eyes.
The series has previously explored tropical themes in Pokémon Sun and Moon, but developers note that the open-world format allows for a deeper exploration of such settings.
Traditionally, mainline Pokémon games are released in November, so the launch may not occur before late 2027. The previous installment, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, faced criticism for technical issues, and a longer development cycle could benefit the new game.
