Startup Perplexity, which develops AI-powered search and competes with Google, has raised $200 million in funding at a company valuation of $20 billion. The new round of financing comes just two months after the previous round, in which the company raised $100 million at a valuation of $18 billion.
Since its founding three years ago, Perplexity has raised a total of $1.5 billion in investments. The leaders of the new round have not yet been disclosed. The $100 million raised in July was a continuation of an earlier $500 million round at a $14 billion valuation, which was led by Accel.
Perplexity's annual subscription revenue is approaching $200 million. In August, the company reported that this figure had already exceeded $150 million.
The new investments come at a time when Perplexity is actively positioning itself as a competitor to Google. In August, the startup even made an offer to acquire the Chrome browser for $34.5 billion.
