OpenAI has acquired Software Applications, Inc., the developer of the Sky interface—an AI assistant for Mac that operates over the screen and helps users with everyday tasks, including writing, planning, and coding. Sky leverages large language models to interact with Mac applications, performing actions on behalf of the user, similar to how AI browsers work.
The Sky development team previously created Workflow, which was acquired by Apple and became the foundation for the Shortcuts technology. Sky's founders, Ari Weinstein and Conrad Kramer, along with COO Kim Beverett, previously worked at Apple, where they contributed to products such as Safari, WebKit, Messages, and FaceTime.
The deal with OpenAI aims to integrate AI technologies into the daily lives of Mac users and business processes running on this platform. Sky will facilitate deeper integration of OpenAI's capabilities into the Apple ecosystem.
