OpenAI acquired the FinTech startup Hiro Finance, which specializes in AI-driven financial planning.
OpenAI has acquired the startup Hiro Finance, which was developing an AI-based personal financial planning service.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Hiro will cease operations on April 20, and all user data will be deleted from servers on May 13. Against this backdrop, the deal can be viewed as an acqui-hire — the purchase of a team rather than a product.
Hiro’s employees will join OpenAI along with the founder. According to LinkedIn, the company had about 10 employees.
Hiro was founded in 2024 and launched its product just a few months ago. The service allowed users to input data about their income, debts, and expenses, after which AI models simulated various financial scenarios and helped them make decisions.
This case stands out because Bloch already has successful experience in fintech: previously, he founded the neobank Digit, which was sold to Oportun for more than $200 million in 2021.
This is not OpenAI’s first deal in the financial sector. The company is actively promoting ChatGPT as a tool for business and financial teams, so strengthening expertise in this area seems like a logical step. It remains unclear whether OpenAI will develop a separate product for financial planning.
