OpenAI's valuation has reached $500 billion, placing it among the world's most valuable companies.

OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has reached a valuation of $500 billion following a deal in which current and former employees sold shares worth approximately $6.6 billion.

This represents an increase from the previous valuation of $300 billion, underscoring OpenAI's rapid growth in both user numbers and revenue.

As part of the deal, OpenAI employees sold their stakes to a consortium of investors, including Thrive Capital, SoftBank, Dragoneer Investment Group, MGX, and T. Rowe Price.

The company also permitted the sale of shares on the secondary market totaling over $10 billion.

This sale complements SoftBank's earlier investments in OpenAI's main funding round of $40 billion.

In the first half of 2025, OpenAI generated approximately $4.3 billion in revenue, which is about 16% more than the entire previous year.
