NVIDIA acquired CentML to accelerate AI computing
Author - Mansur Ismagulov
The American chipmaker Nvidia acquired the Canadian startup CentML, which specializes in optimizing the performance of artificial intelligence models on chips. Along with the technology, key employees of the company also joined Nvidia, including CEO Gennady Pekhimenko, CTO Sam Van, and COO Akbar Nurlibaev, as well as around 15 engineers.
This was a significant exit for investors: since its founding in 2022, the startup raised $30.9 million in investments from Radical Ventures, Deloitte Ventures, Google's Gradient Ventures, Thomson Reuters, and Nvidia itself.
CentML developed software that improved the efficiency of computing resources, allowing AI models to be launched cheaper and faster. However, the company will cease independent operations: its services will be unavailable starting July 17.
Previously, CentML had already collaborated with Nvidia: in 2023, it participated in an investment round with Nvidia's involvement, and in 2024, it joined the chipmaker's accelerator program.
The deal strengthens Nvidia's position not only as a leader in GPU production but also in the field of software solutions for artificial intelligence.
