Nvidia has invested $2 billion in Synopsys, one of the largest players in the market for microchip design software. The share purchase is part of an expanded strategic partnership between the two companies.
Under the terms of the deal, Nvidia acquired common shares of Synopsys at a price of $414.79 per share. Along with the financial investment, the companies announced joint work on new tools for engineering, chip design, and the creation of digital twins based on artificial intelligence and accelerated computing.
Synopsys is a key provider of electronic design software used by the largest chip manufacturers. The partnership will combine Nvidia's AI and GPU-acceleration technologies with Synopsys' engineering tools to reduce development time for complex systems — from processors and electronics to robotics and automotive platforms.
Following the announcement of the deal, Synopsys shares rose by approximately 7%, reflecting market optimism. Nvidia's stock, however, declined slightly — investors viewed the investment as another step by the company to expand its AI-centric ecosystem.
Analysts believe the deal strengthens Nvidia's influence in the chip supply chain — not only at the hardware level but also at the level of design tools. However, the partnership is not exclusive, so Synopsys will continue working with other manufacturers, and Nvidia will continue using alternative EDA platforms.
