A new Instagram feature will allow you to remove yourself from the "Close Friends" list.
Instagram is developing a new feature that will allow users to remove themselves from someone else’s “Close Friends” list. Previously, no such option existed: since the feature’s launch in 2018, users could not leave the list if they had been added by someone else.
An internal prototype of the new feature was discovered by researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, who is known for uncovering unannounced capabilities in apps. At this stage, the feature is in the early stages of development and is not being tested publicly.
Once removed from someone else’s list, users will no longer see content available only to that group until they are added back. This option could be useful for people who do not wish to remain in other users’ closed circles but also do not want to fully unfollow them.
The official release date of the feature is currently unknown. It is noted that Instagram’s main competitor, Snapchat, has long allowed users to leave others’ private stories, making such an update expected by Instagram users.
