The Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhaslan Madiev, held a meeting with Meta Vice President Dr. Simon Milner. The discussion focused on the development of artificial intelligence, workforce training, cybersecurity issues, and ensuring digital safety for children and adolescents.
As part of Meta's initiative, an important industry event took place at Maqsut Narikbayev University, with participation from government officials, the academic community, public organizations, and youth. Measures to prevent cyberbullying, restrict access to harmful content, and develop online control mechanisms that respect the rights and personal boundaries of teenagers were discussed.
Meta introduced new Instagram functionality — "Teen Accounts" — designed for users under the age of 16. Through this feature, parents can limit who has access to their teen's account, filter sensitive content, automatically block offensive words in comments and messages, hide posts from unfamiliar users, disable notifications at night, and limit usage time.
The feature was developed based on international research and expert recommendations from parents. It is expected that this option will soon become available to users in Kazakhstan.
Minister Zhaslan Madiev noted that his ministry is consistently working to create a safe and ethical digital environment where technology serves human interests, especially when it comes to children.
Plans include building 20 data centers and attracting $4 billion to upgrade electrical grids.
