Microsoft became the second public company in history to reach a market capitalization of $4 trillion, following a strong quarterly report. Only Nvidia had previously reached this milestone. The rise in Microsoft's stock, which jumped by 4.5%, is linked to ongoing investments in artificial intelligence that are already yielding tangible returns.
The company reported record sales in its Azure cloud division and noted that its AI-powered Copilot tools are used by more than 100 million active users monthly. In the first quarter of the new fiscal year, Microsoft plans to invest a record $30 billion in capital expenditures to meet the growing demand for AI services.
Microsoft's and Meta's successful reports also boosted the stocks of Amazon and Nvidia, which reached a new record valuation of $4.4 trillion. In total, the four largest AI companies—Microsoft, Nvidia, Meta, and Amazon—added more than $500 billion to their combined market capitalization in a single day.
Microsoft is becoming not just a cloud platform but a leader in corporate AI—while remaining profitable despite massive investments.
