Meta is preparing paid subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Meta plans to launch testing of new paid subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, which will give users access to exclusive features and advanced AI tools.
The subscriptions will provide additional opportunities for creativity and productivity, as well as greater control over how users share content and interact with each other. At the same time, the basic functionality of all apps will remain free, while paid features will be offered as separate packages or bundles for each platform.
Meta also plans to scale the AI agent Manus, which it recently acquired for approximately $2 billion, and integrate it into its products. Additionally, the company intends to test subscriptions for AI features, including video generation through the Vibes service, which was previously completely free but may transition to a freemium model with limits and paid expansion of capabilities.
In Instagram, the paid subscription may include the ability to create unlimited audience lists, view a list of users who are not subscribed in return, and the option to watch Stories anonymously. Details about subscriptions for Facebook and WhatsApp are not yet disclosed.
The new subscriptions will be a separate product and are not related to Meta Verified, which is aimed at content creators and businesses. The company hopes to expand the subscription model for regular users, but acknowledges the risk of "subscription fatigue" against the backdrop of the growth of paid services.
