Malaysia has expressed interest in investing in Uzbekistan's technology projects.
Uzbekistan and Malaysia have agreed to expand cooperation in the fields of technology, investment, and the development of the startup ecosystem. This was announced following the official visit of an Uzbek delegation to Malaysia.
The delegation was led by Erkinjon Turdimov, the governor of the Syrdarya region. As part of the visit, the Uzbekistan–Malaysia Business Cooperation Forum: Do Business in Syrdarya was held, with more than 170 representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, as well as technology companies and entrepreneurs from Malaysia participating.
At the forum, the Uzbek side presented the investment potential of the Syrdarya region, business conditions, tax and infrastructure advantages, and the opportunities provided by IT Park Uzbekistan for foreign companies and startups. Participants were informed about project launch mechanisms, support for residents, and the prospects for the development of the IT sector in the region.
During the visit, meetings were also held with several Malaysian professional and industry organizations, including the Contact Center Association of Malaysia, the National Tech Association of Malaysia, the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization, and Global Business Services Malaysia. The parties discussed cooperation in the fields of digital technologies, outsourcing, IT services, and workforce training.
Particular attention was given to negotiations with the investment firm GOBI Partners. Representatives of the fund expressed interest in investing in Uzbek startups and developing joint projects.
To date, 12 Malaysian companies have already opened their offices in the Syrdarya region. It is expected that their number will increase in the near future, which will help strengthen bilateral economic ties and attract additional investments into Uzbekistan's technology sector.
Following the visit, the parties noted the high potential for further cooperation and expressed readiness to expand partnership in the areas of innovation, the digital economy, and international investments.
